University Grant Commission is going to issue a notification on fees refund and non-retention of original certificates by Institutions. It would be a step towards facilitating students in their admission.
While interacting with media, Union Minister for HRD Prakash Javadekar said that the students were facing several problems during admissions, due to coercive and profiteering institutional practices being adopted by some institutions. For the facilitation of the students, the UGC notification on fees refund and non-retention of original certificates are being brought out. Now, no any student will be required to submit any original certificates at the time of form submission and students will get a fee refund from the Institution if they withdraw their admission from the course.
This notification will aid the students seeking admission to higher educational institutions in many manners. After this notification, Institutes can charge fees in advance only for the semester or year in which a student wants to engage in academic activities. Collecting advance fees for the entire course of study is strictly prohibited.
Also, the institute will be required to refund full fees, in case a student decides to withdraw 15 days or more before the formally notified last date of admission. There are other slabs for returning the 50-90% of the fees amount. Entire caution money and security deposit, which are not part of the fees chargeable, shall be refunded in full within 15 days.
