It's a great career avenue, with high remuneration and a lot of traveling. But you have to remember that it's also a very uncertain profession. Aircraft engineers design, construct, operate and maintain the aircrafts as well as space crafts. These professionals in civil aviation generally specialize in aeronautical, mechanical or electronic engineering.

Mechanical engineers service and overhaul engines and airframes while electronic engineers specialize in the maintenance of instruments and electrical/electronic equipments.

India has two distinct sector-Commercial and Military aviation industry.

Commercial aviation includes Indian and International passenger airlines and cargo planes as well as charter operations etc. while military aviation includes Indian Air force and the aviation arms of the Navy and Army.

In this sector, a trainee pilot can earn Rs.15000/- per month. A pilot can earn Rs.65000/- to Rs.85000/- per month. Foreign airlines pay much more, going up to Rs.1.5 laks per month and even higher.

With all these luxuries, it is highly responsible job with no place for error. If you are medically unfit at any time, you will be grounded with considerable financial loss. In fact, you should have a medical fitness test done even before joining.
