Geographers study the distribution and location of physical and cultural phenomena on the earth's surface. These professionals study topography and climate of particular regions and understand how these affect people living there.

 

Geography in an arts stream focus on economic, social, history and urban geography.

Geographers, specialist in Hydrology, study the presence and distribution of water on earth as well as in atmosphere.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) focus on scientific theory of geographic information and analyze to develop new geographic information systems and application. Computer skill is necessary with higher level of general knowledge. A GIS professional requires sharp academic and a creative approach to identify programming methods suited to specific requirements.

Geography offers various areas of specialization-

Cartographers

These professionals collect data for preparation of maps. Drafting of maps is also done by cartographers.

Economic Geographers

EG record economic and industrial activities of a region. These activities include recording of location of manufacturing industries, mining locations, communication services, farming activities and marketing etc. It is used by businesses, planners and transport developers.

Geographic Information Systems

GIS professionals do systematic and scientific analysis as well as may work on new information systems and applications.

Medical Geographers

MG study health patterns of a specific area. This stream encompasses the impact of vegetation, minerals, water and environment on lives in the region.

Political Geographers

These professionals are concerned with international and national frontiers and also the impact of natural resources and physical
features to matters concerning regional affairs.

Physical Geographers

Physical Geographers understand and analyze climatic patterns.

Regional Geographers

These professionals do depth observations and recording of physical, cultural, economic and political data to enable an
analysis of current regional circumstances.

Urban Geographers

These professionals cover urban development. UG work on traffic related projects, residential locations, shopping complex areas
and give advices regarding these projects.

Geography includes a lot of mathematical and statistical work, so 10+2 or equivalent with Geography and Mathematics is essential. Student of art stream are also eligible for some courses in this sector.
